1990s. McDonnell-Douglas merged with Boeing
to compete with the highly successful Airbus Industrie, itself a
partnership of European Aircraft manufacturers. Dutch airliner maker Fokker ceased
trading in the late 1990s after over 70 years of
airliner production.
